BFH Workout #37: Lisa Leslie

 

Lisa Leslie is a former professional basketball player, widely regarded as one of the greatest female basketball players of all time. Born on July 7, 1972, in Gardena, California, Leslie showed early promise in basketball, standing tall at 6'5". She attended Morningside High School, where she excelled on the court, earning numerous accolades and leading her team to consecutive state championships.

Leslie's talent caught the attention of college scouts, and she went on to play for the University of Southern California (USC) from 1990 to 1994. During her college career, she became a dominant force in women's college basketball, earning All-American honors multiple times and leading USC to an NCAA Championship in 1983.

After college, Leslie embarked on a remarkable professional career. She was selected by the Los Angeles Sparks as the seventh overall pick in the inaugural WNBA draft in 1997. Over the course of her 12-season WNBA career, all spent with the Sparks, Leslie solidified her status as a legend of the sport. She was a three-time WNBA MVP, a two-time WNBA Champion, and an eight-time All-Star. Leslie's impact extended beyond the court, as she played a pivotal role in popularizing women's basketball and elevating the profile of the WNBA.

Off the court, Leslie has been an advocate for women's sports and a positive role model for aspiring athletes. She has worked as a sports commentator, motivational speaker, and philanthropist, focusing on issues such as education, health, and empowerment.

25 Medicine Ball Trunk Twist

20 Squat to Touch

20 Lateral Squats (each side)

20 Medicine Ball Sit Ups

Exercise List

Medicine Ball Trunk Twists

Start with your feet hip width apart. Hold the dumbbell at chest height with your arms straight. Twist your body to one side and back to the other side.

Squat to Touch

Begin with your feet close. Sit down and back into a half squat position. Jack your feet out and in for time or reps.

Lateral Squats

Begin standing with your feet shoulder width apart. Step one leg out to the side as you squat down to parallel. Stand back up and move your leg back in to starting position. Complete desired reps then repeat on the opposite side.

Medicine Ball Sit Ups

Start on the floor with a medicine ball in your hand. Hold the ball by your chest and perform a sit up.

Jump Ropes

Start with your feet hip-width apart while holding a jump rope. Swing the rope around your head and jump over it before it hits your ankles. Repeat.
